The reason a person chooses a half stack could have something to due with volume but more than likely has to do with its tonal difference from a combo or 2x12. a 4x12 cabinet tends to have a much fuller sound than a 2x12 or combo with tighter and fuller bass. also the ability to use speaker combinations are an attractive feature, in my cabinet i have 2 celestion G12hs in the bottom and 2 pittbull p50es in the top, and to me it sounds amazing but this just gets to my main point...a half stack is not a waste of power even if your in a venue that mics cabs (although i like to push mine a lot higher than i should regardless of micing situations) its just a different way of tweaking your sound to have it fit the style you choose to play...like changing pickups etc... . Im not saying that any other combo wont work, ive got a madison 2x12 and a late 60s Sunn 1x15, im just saying for metal or rock i choose a 4x12 for its tone because to me it sounds better.

- also the ability to mix and match different cabs with heads is cool....anyway its 5 and im tired...maybe more later

i guess i didn't think of the mixing and matching heads, you make some good points, i guess it all depends on the music you play. For what i like to play a lot a Fender twin reverb would be best (surf rock) though i don't have that amp yet...someday i will.

My brother wants to get one of those to stack with his JCM2000 so he'll be running through 3-12's. He'd have the brightest clean tone(from the fender), as well as crunch and beef (from the marshall)..

To bad he has no job, and they cost $1000+

you can have the right to not like them that doesn't make them bad now does it. i don't like Voodoo sciences music but i still think they're talented and they're my friends. i'm just saying you can't bash anyones musical abilities unless you're certifibly better than them that since theres no way of being certified (especially when you don't perform) shut your hole wang chung
