It's about time someone is thanking Jesus for me. Really it sounds like you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I mean, who here hasn't taken an innocent bong hit or killed the occasional hooker? Lord knows I have. Speaking of which, you can go back to thanking Jesus for me now. yes. haha you almost get as much time for pot as you would for killing a hooker. its unjust. pot is not bad in moderation. the strippers and hookers used to come into my coffee shop before work. the strip club was 3 blocks away. it was funny. they would flirt with me. tehe. ewww. Well that's not really the point I was trying to make at all, but you know, whatever. Oh, and pot is bad no matter if it's in moderation or excess.

Psh! Pot is so cool!
I can't believe you just said that, your lameness is soaking into this thread and the future of our nation's children.

Coolness was never the question. The human lungs just aren't made to handle foreign substances such as smoke. I know that weed (way cooler term than pot) smoke hasn't been proven to be as damaging as tobacco smoke, but any smoke does some harm to your respiratory well-being. Thus my argument that any amount of weed is bad.

we've sat around fires breathing in smoke since before recorded history and we've been able to figure out any number of things that can be smoked, even before we were able to write about it. Some of it enhances and some of it makes worse, but all societies have something and I think we've adapted fairly well.

I like your choice of words in presenting your argument, Ragina. "Some of it enhances and some of it makes worse." Anabolic steroids enhance bone and muscle production. A negative side effect being the psychiatric episodes (aggression, depression, suicide attempts) of the people who use them. Likewise, smoking weed enhances ("alters" would be a better word to use here, but I want to stick with the words you used) mental perception, while the negative effects include long-term memory loss, respiratory problems and damages to parts of the brain. Not to mention that weed smoke contains 20 times more ammonia than cigarette smoke. Now, I'm not passing any judgement on anyone who partakes of the herb in recreation - I enjoyed getting blazed a time or two in younger years. What I am saying is that, from a health-concerned viewpoint, any weed intake is bad. People need to know what they are doing to themselves instead of just doing it to be cool.

Oh, and I karma-lized both you and Sam for giving me something to debate about. It had been too long.

Well, I karma-lized Sam. It won't let me give out any more right now, but yours is a-coming, Riptide-Rick-Raggity-Anne-Gina.

Show me the hard evidence. There have been no studies done to conclusively prove any of this—it is merely speculation based on evidence that has not even been tested. I have even heard of studies showing that there are less carcinogens in weed than tobacco—not that I believe those either—it's just that it hasn't been proven either way because it's a prohibited substance and there is no way for US citizens to legally research it. It's just a culture of fear that has influenced your opinions of it, and without going to google right now I bet you would be hard pressed to cite a source for your apparent "expertise."
And no one talks about moderation. Your lungs are built to repair themselves as long as you don't do too much damage at once. It's not like PM 2.5 and other BS in the air just goes in there and stays. Our bodies do a pretty good job. Also, if we talked about moderation instead of prohibition, kids wouldn't have to do it because it was "cool." We could be mature about it and educate people in the facts instead of speculating.
And I don't even smoke pot. Thank you KRCL marijuana interviews, for making this moment possible.

Upon rereading my response, I realized that I sounded more confrontational than I intended to. I have enjoyed a puff or two (or more, some home cookin', the vape, who knows?) in my time, but I quit when my friends started getting in big trouble. I don't mean to come off as a marijuana juarior. juajaja Also, thank you for the research notes. I am pretty lazy.
I am also sorry to have hijack the thread, but I did want to make the point that society's opinion of pot is negatively influenced by speculation that doesn't have both feet planted firmly inside reality. That is all.
On the 1 year note, though, I am pleased to report that life is way better now than it was then, and showing signs of continual improvement. (Trying to get the thread back on track...)

I also didn't mean to come across as confrontational. Can we still be loganscene acquaintances (oh, and here is that karma I promised)? If I had any idea who you are and if I were 7 years younger and if I still had my old van, I would invite you (and all loganscene) to hot-box it with me. But, alas, times have changed. STUPID MORMONISM!!!

Seriously If I ever have to turn to mind altering substances to enjoy myself/get through the day I would start finding new friends, job, hobbies, and a life. If you can't live it up without inebriants, you're doing it wrong.
Of Coarse this is just my opinion for my own life. I'm not trying to kick it all self righteous on the peeps.
