The city of Logan itself obviously isn't a place for live music. Intense fliering, show buzz and promotion in general always seem to get swept under the rug in this town, like it does in many other places. The music needs to get to campus. This, I feel, is our only hope. College students want something to do, but they aren't going to attend a show if they don't really know who is playing. Can you blame them? Going into a show blind isn't really something we all want to jump at. I've said it a million times, people like familiarity. They don't want to go to a show if they don't know who is playing, and they certainly don't want to take time to research local bands. People have a hard time remembering names, places and dates. They won't give something attention unless they know a little about it.
All of this is why I propose a Logan Music Co-op. The Logan Music Co-op would be a collection of Loganscene music. In order to be involved in this Co-op, you obviously need merch. We all know merch can get expensive, but it is a necessity if you want involvement.
So what would the requirements to join this Co-op be? Well, like I said, you need merch. It would be nice if each participating band had at least stickers, shirts and cds. I understand that not every band in the LS has these things, but in order to be in this, bare minimum, you would have to have a cd. If you don't have a cd, you can't participate, period.
The Co-op would attend events like, A-Day, campus swap meets, Flea Markets, etc. The idea for this Co-op is mainly for Logan Scene promotion, but it's also an avenue for bands to get their music on campus. More knowledge of good local bands on campus equals better shows.
The Co-op will give people something they can hold in their hands. It will give them something they can listen to, wear and stick on things. All in all, I think it would help our cause quite a bit.
Thoughts?
Credit to Nate Sorensen and TieBreaker for the idea.

Look at your gif, Ben. It's laughing at you. Really though, I think it's a great idea and would love to participate in whatever way is needed.

Jonzey, I think you totally missed the point and you even did a good job of being a dick about it. Everyone knows that playing in Logan doesn't equal fame and fortune, but some people, like my husband, will be in a band no matter what the stakes because he really enjoys it. And I personally LIKE Logan and I don't have a hard time finding good music to listen to so I don't know what the hell your problem is.
The idea is to get other people in the area interested. What's so wrong with inspiring people in the area to like the music in their back yard? There are boatloads of people at USU and some of them may even like music enough to spend $5 to see a good band (rather than $8 bucks to see a crappy movie) if they knew who the good bands were. Which is the point here.

On a note that relates back to the topic:
does anyone remember that public access TV show idea some fellas had a while ago? The valley channel will play anything that anyone has the rights to and is willing to sign over... and it reaches every dorm and household in the valley that has cable. Put music on it, advertise it on campus/around town, put show dates up and talk about venues... Get Kurt Polk to host it (best fake TV personality ever), and you got magic. It could be sponsored by the co-op...
It's a good idea. If I had equipment I would already be doing it.

Your focus is on how Logan sucks and the bands here suck and for anything good to happen you have to get out of Logan. I don't think that's true.
I think the requirements of the co-op the slugger outlined would do a lot to ensure that the higher quality bands got promoted around town, thus inspiring more attendance at shows.
I wouldn't call it a co-op though. Sounds too crunchy.

Okay, okay. Both my posts were a little too cock-esque. I'll try to be more objective. Logan has a bunch of really great bands (Bleary, The Shuttles, The Crooked Beats, The Castanettes, The Upcollars, Xavier, Griswold, Chucks, The Reco Alcos, etc.), many of which have been going for years and years. I think any idea that helps these bands get out to the general populace of the valley is a great idea. I understand this site is for the promotion of the local scene, but I would like to see these local bands grow their fanbases and get the exposure and credit they deserve instead of more and more failed attempts at growing the loganscene. Logan is a fantastic place but, as Slugmeister stated in the original post, it is NOT a place for local music. If you ever listen to x96 live and local on sunday night from 10:00 - 12:00, it is full of mediocre bands from SLC. I would love to see some quality Logan bands on there! BUT in order to do that, the bands need to think outside the box and journey to other realms of utah. Never forsake the mother land (logan) but don't be afraid to see what the world has to offer. If the folks of logan don't appreciate the great musicians that live and play there, then those great musicians should go to where people will give them a chance instead of always trying to persuade the people to support them!
Still, co-op is a sweet idea. I like it more and more the more I think of it. Let me know if you need any help with it and I will be there.

Realizing my first 2 posts were stealing the Slug-man's thunder I went ahead and deleted them. Again, co-op is a great idea. Let me know what I can do to help and get my band involved.

I don't mind that you deleted, but I do want to point out the fact, for anyone who hasn't been following this thread, that I was not actually talking to myself. There was a little back and forth in there.
I'm not THAT crazy.

Well, this is well on its way to happening. A few prominent local artists have already confirmed. We will probably only be taking around 5 acts right now, just to keep things simple until we get this off the ground.
