What do you think the chances are that a band that sounded somewhat like these genres would be tolerated around these parts? Would everyone absolutely hate a band that did the whole noise with a drumline with some more metaphorical lyrics just shouted over the whole thing. Something like Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, DNA, Sonic Youth, Mars, The Jesus Lizard etc.
I ask because I'd like to do something different that we haven't heard around here for a while, but if everyone will resent having us on the line up then I don't know if I'll let it out of my bedroom. I just don't want to turn into the next Horses.
So what do you think?

I would appreciate it, as long as its groovy with SOME hooks, or otherwise to keep me interested. I Like some of the bands you listed (but truthfully haven't listened to them in a while) but would welcome a change of pace. Also have you heard of Drive like Jehu, Tanner, or Hot Snakes? Not too noise rock, but still a good listen.

I have, all good bands.
I was thinking of infusing a little post-hardcore or traditional emo into it to make it a little more digestible. Something along the lines of Rites of Spring, Sunny Day Real Estate, or Fugazi. So its not so much noise as experimental, sloppy, punkish stuff. Its all still in the works.

Meh, what the hay. I'll get it going, play some shows and if everyone hates it, at least I tried.

go for it, even though it IS performance don't worry about how the crowd is going to take it. Do what feels right to you.

Their new stuff isn't too hot IMO. They've lost it...

Thanks for all the input guys. And you're absolutly correct I wouldn't classify Sonic Youth as a noise rock band. They were a big band in the short lived New York No Wave scene, they had a huge influence on alternative rock in general, and are one of the most listenable bands from that era. There is most definatly structure to their music, its just not as widely liked as more popular music, so they have been clumped into that whole scene.
Hopefully I can get some interested folks into this project soon and have a set in the near future. Thanks again Loganscene.
