I've never even been to Why Sound? From what I understand it seems like a cool place for like some sweet a-cue-stick jammy-jams but not so much for whole big-ol'-rock-out-rock band. Yes? And if that is not the case, how does one go about being put on a show there? Ok, Jonzey here is an answer to you questions. I don’t think I have met you, and I don’t know what you mean by a cool place for like some sweet a-cue-stick jammy-jams, but it does seem to imply you think we are a joke. I can assure you that we take the venue and the shows very serious. Here is a run down of what the venue is about. We have had close to 200 shows in the last 9 months, we have about 15-20 a month. We have been getting bands from all over the world. Last month we had a touring experimental scremo band call 2Side1BRAIN from Okinawa, Japan. Next week on the 2nd of April we have a rock band called Pocket Rocket coming from Austria. We get a lot of the touring bands that pass through Kilby Court and Velour. We also get Bands that pass from Denver to Boise who pass Salt Lake City on their tours. We have been getting a bunch of bands returning that have enjoyed playing here, like Down for The Count, Kid Theodore, Oh Sweet Ransom, and Curtis Peoples just to name a few. One of our main goals is to support the local music scene, we try to have a least one local act on every show. We do local only shows as well. We also get bands from SLC, Ogden, Pocatello, and Tremonton. We do all kinds of music from the loudest rocking bands to singer songwriters to world music like Cara & Wade. We even have a comedy show coming up in April. We also host the USU Jazz last Wednesday of the month show with Jon Gudmundson, which will be held on the first Tuesday of April this time for special guest artist Byron Stripling on Trumpet. We had the Neon Trees play here a few months ago with Love You Long Time, and that is the show where the A&R rep flew out from NY to sign them. At the current time we are booked into August. It seems that certain people want to separate Why Sound so they can promote their own shows with out any competition. I agree that all venues and promotional organizations should be given fair treatment, and either everyone has their own section, or they all share the same section. However, I think you assumed a little bit regarding Ben's motives. I can't read his mind or predict his motives, but I really don't think it's about competition. He's right, the show section has just gotten a bit cluttered. I love you Josh, but this is kinda in your hands and you're failing to do anything about it. I live in the ogdenscene!!! Give me a break! Oh, and why sound, thank you for the info. No, I wasn't making fun of your establishment and nobody here is out to get you. Chill, my friend. Just chill.

word to the wise: never argue with the Hibsh. You just won't win.
I think this whole thing is getting blown a little out of proportion.
I can see the benefit of moving Why Sound, as they are practically an institution in this town, but it would make it seem as though they're shows are "different" than scene shows. Who cares about a cluttered page? Personally, I think it's a good sign. That means there are shows and music and scene love. Sweet, sweet scene love. And that's what really matters.
Isn't it?
Thank you Why Sound for all the empty nights you have filled for me.
p.s. jonzey, I think a lot of people check this site without being "regulars". It takes a special kind of person to be a "regular."

First and foremost, I still think many of you misunderstand what I am saying. I brought this to a vote, because I don't have the power to take it into my own hands. I also don't want to take it into my own hands, because it was just an idea. I didn't know if it was good or not, hence the voting.
Reggie, you can't win an argument with me if your points are irrational. Why Sound is still taking my points as an attack and it's really ridiculous. Sure they called me out on the reasons why I don't go to many of their shows. I think it's safe to say I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to what's happening down on Federal.
Once again, I in no way meant to attack Why Sound when I made this thread. I was just looking for a solution to the obnoxiousness of stickying every show of theirs when they post a calender as well. Sorry, don't take offense to that either.
Secondhand makes a great point. If Why Sound had their own section, that would mean all the other organizations should get their own as well. That's not a half-bad idea, but it might actually clog and confuse things even more.
Oh and for the record, I don't want to separate your shows from the rest to get ahead. I believe in competition. It's healthy. That's why I for one, don't believe in this new House Show Police policy which I have been hearing so much about lately. There I said it. That's what an attack looks like.

Honestly Why sound guys, this defensive position is kind of a put off. It IS obnoxious that there are always something like 5 shows stickied in the Loganscene section. No one was attacking you guys or your business. Other people put shows together and there's no reason why their threads should be pushed further down.
I also have to agree with Ben. I was really disappointed when I saw you guys at the house show counting people. If you are having low attendance to your shows then there's a problem with the promotion or the bands. Perhaps instead of making sure house shows are following the "same rules" you guys have to follow, you should take that time and figure out your attendance problems.
That being said, I like you guys. I think you've got a long way to go, but what new business doesn't? I just hope you guys can remember that you are just one facet and should be treated as such. Why Sound is a great contributer to the local music scene. You aren't, however, the whole scene.

and maybe this is someone's idea of a joke considering that the thread was started based off of whysounds' stickied shows....but why is THIS thread stickied? Random threads don't get stickied...
i'm only not-un-sticky-ing this so you guys can be aware of what this post is talking about

I agree this tread has become ridiculous. This all started when we posted 6 shows. This was the first time we had posted a bunch of shows, in the past we only posted our monthly schedule. I am surprised it would create such a controversy.
We believe that separating our shows is not good for the scene. Just remember separation does not create unity. That being said, separate our shows if you want, it really will not effect our business. Our attendance has been good and Logan scene really has very little effect on that. Most of the people that attend our show don’t know or care about Logan scene. Out of the 12 or so people on this forum very few of you every go to any of our shows. One of the points we are trying to make is that we have some amazing performers pass through and it is a shame very few of you come down and check them out. And what we were trying to tell Ben is if he does not have time to sort through our schedule he should hit us up and in 5 minutes or less we could tell him which shows he would like. This applies to everybody on the forum.
Lastly, for the record Clint the only reason we went to the house party was so we could book Fictionist for a show, if you noticed that he went directly to talk to them and then left. Neither of us entered the living room, so how could we count heads. Well to be honest we were also interested in checking out Baby Brittan. For some reason Ben will never hit us up for a show with that project. We would like everybody on this forum to know that you are all welcome to come and play at the venue anytime. Okay we are now definitely done with this thread.
