1. The Doors 2. Nirvana 3. Metallica 4. Thugged out Gangsta Pimp (I haven't even heard him play the drums!) 5. The Beatles (I like them, I just am in a band with two members that talk them up a bit. No offense Zach and Cannon, I just KINDA like the beatles... Abbey Road and the White Album in particular.

you're entitled to your opinion and I respect it but you have to think that The Beatles have been so influential that without them most of your favorite bands wouldn't exist. They are pretty hyped up but they changed music so I don'tk now. I wish Metallica was on my list. they would make top six.
Really you don't like the Who?

Sorry about the who, I meant the doors. I don't think that Jim Morrison was that awesome. I will change my post. And as for the Beatles, it is more of a personal thing. It is because of how hyped up they become in my life that I think that they are "overrated."
Some examples:
First to use a 4 track first to have feedback in a recording first Metal song (helter skelter) first techno song (I forget which one it is but I think it is on the White Album) first to tune their drums lower for a thicker sound Used cloths on drums to hinder ringing/make staccato Paul didn't have his shoes on so he died and they got a gayer replacement (this I don't think they actually believed, but it was mentioned)
I am just naming some of the ones that I have heard from my band mates. I have nothing to back them up, but these are the ones I remember, there are countless others.

1.) The Beatles for sure. They were really good for their time, and are still a ball to listen to... but holy shiite muslims.. People have turned them into gods! John Lennon especially! Fuh that bih in the buh.
2.) Nickle Back. Or is it one word? Gal, I'm glad I don't know.. Anyway, we could post the link to that website, but we've all seen it already. They suck A.
3.) Good Charlotte
4.) New Found Glory
5.) Kurt Cobain
On the contrary... Getting away with almost swearing: Underrated!

1) Nirvana - Decent band, but pioneering a genre is only cool if the genre sticks around. That, and the Foo Fighters are way better than Nirvana could ever have dreamt of being.
2) Metallica - They did nothing new. They took terrible music and made it faster. Big deal.
3) 311 - One day somebody other than myself will listen to them and think "they really aren't that good". They are the "Friends" to Incubus' "Seinfeld".
4) Guns 'N Roses - With the exception of November Rain all of their music is near unlistenable.
5) Kiss - I love Kiss but they really are only famous for their appearance, not their music. Honestly, can the average joe name more than 3 Kiss songs?

in no particular order, just bands with followings i've never understood-
KISS
The Doors
Pantera
The Offspring
The Dave Matthews Band
with an honorable mention for ABBA, because man-o-man do they suck.

first techno song (I forget which one it is but I think it is on the White Album) I think you mean Tomorrow Never Knows on Revolver. As for my list, I agree with many of yours, but I can't really make a list because I hate way too many popular bands to think of just five.

While we're sort of on the topic - can anyone tell me how guys like Bruce Springsteen and The Eagles keep winning Grammys? It makes no sense to me.

F.T.J. likes Bruce. I don't know.
He also likes Steely Dan and won't stop listening to Robert Lund. I can't help but think that this is not the man I married.

While we're sort of on the topic - can anyone tell me how guys like Bruce Springsteen and The Eagles keep winning Grammys? It makes no sense to me. Ronald Reagan came out once and said "America's future rests in a thousand dreams inside your hearts; it rests in the message of hope in songs so many young Americans admire: New Jersey's own Bruce Springsteen. And helping you make those dreams come true is what this job of mine is all about." Reagan's advisers assumed they'd get an endorsement out of Springsteen during the campaign, but after the remark Springsteen came out against Reagan. Ever since, he's been somewhat of a liberal activist. His re release of "Coming to America" where he lambastes the emigration laws in the US regarding Mexico. Blah blah blah, long story short: The system is political, and just like Hollywood, the liberal ones get high praise by the award givers.
