I would have to say the following (in no particular order)
Muse - Black Holes and Revelations The Mars Volta - Amputecthure Josh Groban - Awake Angels and Airwaves - We Don't Need To Whisper Thom Yorke - The Eraser Damien Rice - 9 The Fountain OST by Clint Mansell, The Kronos Quartet, and Mogwai Mogwai - Mr. Beast Bloc Party - A Weekend In The City (I know this doesn't officially come out until 2007, but I heard it in 2006) Deftones - Saturday Night Wrist Taking Back Sunday - Louder Now Keane - Under The Iron Sea Cursive - Happy Hollow

(You can hear some of them on googlevideo or youtube.) I have some hope even though Daryl is busy with Head Automatica, and Manny is in Saves The Day. Off their official site "When is Glassjaw going to release another album? This is a question nobody knows for sure because it deals with so much planning and work. The general consensus is that the goal is to get the next album out sometime in 2007. "

that is a very good album. i enjoy it thoroughly. but i think it still sounds a bit immature. i think their next album will be the shit. but that's a long ways away. True, it is a little messy. They will have to tighten some of their instrumental stuff, and reword their lyrics a little. But all and all, they are an amazing band.

jordan, i thought that was your list til i re-read the post, and you've got a lot of growing up to do. BLOOD MOUNTAIN was groundbreaking. and The Hold Steady, BOYS & GIRLS IN AMERICA is one of the BEST albums i have EVER heard. STADIUM ARCADIUM was pretty badass too i won't argue with the hold steady. and stadium arcadium was good. i'm just not much of peppers kina guy. but i just really did not like bloo mountain. but cat power? oh god. horrible stuff.

cat power is one of those bands you have to be in the mood for. you just can't throw that shit on or else you're going to start throwing shit out the window.
blood mountain isn't as listenable as leviathan, but honestly, i think technically and musically speaking its groundbreaking. i think it ten or fifteen years it is going to be referenced by a lot of great bands as an influence

I hate you,

Their first album was perfect, it's one of those CD's where you'd listen to every single song.

See Sam, that's where I disagree. Their first album (provided you are referring to their major label debut "Hopes and Fears") was an worthy effort simply because they achieved their sound without guitars (or at least without a guitarist). The songs were catchy enough to be liked, but weak enough to only allow them a cult-status, albeit a large cult-status. The album feels like it was a collection of songs, compiled to make a full length album.
However, with Under the Iron Sea, I feel that Keane has reinvented their sound to incorporate more than the piano based ballads from Hopes and Fears. While the caliber of songs isn't fundamentally different, the songs have a flowing nature that I found absent on the first album. The album has momentum at parts, with a solemn sadness throughout others, as opposed to the "cut and paste" feeling of Hopes and Fears.
The other reason I like this album more is because Keane learned that they can actually rock out sometimes and still keep their signature sound.

Mastodon is one of the most amazing bands out there right now. They have a total style of their own, and they are amazing musicians. Using 4ths and 7th so cleverly in some of their songs. The combination of celtic metal and chickin pickin is just so unique. They are one of the best metal bands to date. But thats just my opinion. I've been listening to them for years.
